How do I use FTP to connect to my personal filestore (M drive)? (Windows)

You will need to add the SSH permission to your account before you can connect to Central ( How do I do that? )

  • Click the Start button
  • Click Computer (If you are using Windows 8 or 10 type This PC then click it)
  • In the address bar type ftp:// yourusername @central.aber.ac.uk
  • Press the Enter key
  • When prompted enter your AU username and password
  • Click Log On
  • You will now be able to access files located on your filestore

If you are using an FTP client or another operating system:

  • Connect using SFTP (Secure FTP) if your client supports it. Otherwise connect using passive mode
  • The hostname is central.aber.ac.uk
  • The port number is 22
  • The username is your AU username
  • The password is your AU password

If you cannot see your folders:

  • Click Start then Control Panel
  • Search Internet Options at the top right and click it
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • Scroll through the list and ensure that the following boxes are checked:
    • Enable FTP folder view
    • Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility)
