My Aber VPN connection does not seem to working, what can I do?

  • Check your normal Internet connection is working
  • Check the password you are using is correct ( How do I do that? )
  • If you have a firewall on your computer, for example Zone Alarm, AVG or Norton Personal Firewall, you may have to allow the vpn connection through your firewall. Most firewalls have an 'Allowed' or 'Exception' section where you can list trusted sites. You need to add the VPN connection to this list. ( How do I do this? )
  • If you are trying to use VPN from another institution, a workplace or public Internet facility you may find that local network restrictions prevent you from making the VPN connection. You will need to check with your local system administrator if VPN connections are allowed
  • Click here to have our system check your VPN connection
  • Remove any expired virus checking software from your computer
  • Try removing the connection and then re-adding it ( How do I do that? )
  • If you continue to have problems please contact Information Services with:
    • the date and time you tried to connect
    • the error message you received
    • whether you have Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 or Mac OS
    • whether you are using home broadband or are on another network (e.g. work)
