Renewal of AU central printing service

The central printing service used by Aberystwyth University staff and students was renewed during August and September 2017.

All the central MFDs (Multi-functional devices) were replaced with new devices provided by Ricoh.

Good news for students

  • The new service means printing and copying is cheaper (Where can I see charges?)
  • You no longer need to add separate printing credit to your Aber Card - the new service uses your Aber Card balance (How do I top that up?)
  • You no longer need to use your PIN when logging on to the MFD with your Aber Card
  • You can email your document direct to the print queue on or off campus  (How do I do that?)
  • You can send your document to print from a webpage on or off campus (How do I do that?)
  • You can print directly from your mobile device (How do I do that?)
  • You can now scan directly to either email or your filestore (How do I do that?)
  • You can use the MFDs for scanning even if you have no Aber Card balance

Information on using the new MFDs can be found in our FAQS

Good news for staff

  • All staff printing and copying will be automatically charged to the department's printing account
  • You can email your document direct to the print queue (How do I do that?)
  • You can print directly from your mobile device (How do I do that?)
  • You can now scan directly to either email or your filestore (How do I do that?)
  • Staff wishing to use the MFDs for personal printing or photocopying can easily switch to using thier Aber Card balance (How do I do that?)

Things you should know

  • All personal printing balances have been transferred into your Aber Card balance
  • All public computers are automatically connected to the new print service
  • All staff computers on the PAU domain are automtically connected to the central printers
  • If you have your own device connected to the central printers you will need to connect to the new service (How do I do that?)
  • For three weeks we will be running two services for staff, the old and new. Staff computers will be connected to both services:
    • Blackandwhite on print.aber.ac.uk and colour on print.aber.ac.uk send prints to the new service
    • Konica-blackandwhite on printing.aber.ac.uk and Konica-colour on printing.aber.ac.uk sends prints to the old service
    • You will need to choose the appropriate queue depending on whether your local printer has been swapped to the new service.
  • Once all the existing (Konica) devices have been turned off staff PCs will be disconnected from this service
