How do I set up 2-step verification for my University account without a smartphone (Mac)?
- Download the free MFA utility Authy from the Authy website
- Run the download and follow install instructions
- When prompted, follow instructions to provide an email address and phone number
- Authy can be used to authenticate a variety of other services
- Login to https://outlook.aber.ac.uk from a web browser
- You will be prompted to provide More Information
- Click Next
- Click I want to use a different authenticator app then click Next
- Click Can't scan image? and a code will be displayed
- Highlight the key then right-click on it and select copy
- Open Authy on your Mac
- Click the + to Add an Account
- Paste in your secret code and click Add Account
- Go back to your account login page and click Next
- Enter the code displayed by Authy and click Next
- You will then be taken to a confirmation screen. Click Done to finish
- The setup is now completed and you will need to verify any requests to login to your Office 365 account from off-campus using the app on your computer.
Please note
- Once setup has been completed you will only need to use the 2-step verification when accessing your account off campus
- Microsoft applications will prompt you for 2-step verification off-campus as and when needed.
- You can change your authentication method using these instructions
