How do I use Cysill?

This FAQ provides instructions for using Cysill in Aberystwyth University computer rooms. On your own computer it may work differently

  • Click on the Start button
  • Click All Programs
  • Click Word Processing
  • Choose Cysill
  • Type or paste the Welsh text into the text area
  • Place the cursor in the beginning of the text to be checked and press Gwirio button

  • The spellchecker will scan through the text. If there is a spelling/grammar error it will be highlighted in red and the list of suggestions will be displayed below
  • To accept the change click on one of the suggestions and click Cywiro button

  • Cywiro Pob will replace all occurrences of the word with the word suggested by Cysill
  • Anwybyddu will ignore all occurrences of the highlighted word
  • Anwybyddu Un will ignore the current occurrence
  • Dysgu will add the highlighted word to Cysill's dictionary - so it will not come up as spelled incorrectly next time you run the check
  • Dadwneud undoes the last change made by Cysill
  • Once the text has been checked, of if there are no error the message will be displayed:

  • Select the text and copy it back into the application of your choice (e.g. Microsoft Word) and then save it.
