How do I set up my computer to lock when it is left unattended for a short while? (Mac)

AU Regulations and Guidelines state that staff must ensure that any computer they are using at AU is not used by unauthorised persons.

To lock the screen when you leave it unattended: 

  • Simultaneously press Control + Shift + Eject
    Control+Shift+Eject
  • If your keyboard does not have an Eject key, press Control + Shift + Power

To unlock your screen when you return:

  • Press the Power button
  • Login as normal

You should set your computer to lock automatically if you leave it unattended for a short while:

  • Go to the Apple Menu
  • Select System Preferences
  • Go to the Desktop & Screen Saver
  • Select the Screen Saver tab
  • Click on the Hot Corners button
  • Choose a corner to use. Select Start Screen Saver and click OK
  • Click the Back arrow to get to System Preferences
  • Select the Security and Privacy option
  • Tick the option Require password
  • Exit System Preferences
  • By moving your mouse to the corner of the screen that you chose, you can activate the screen saver
