What is going to happen to the existing public computers when the new ones are installed?

During the Summer of 2018 Information Services will be replacing all of the computers in centrally timetabled teaching rooms, computer rooms and libraries.

The existing computers will be rebuilt as staff PCs and offered free of charge to departments on the following basis:

  • PCs will only be made available to replace existing, in service, PCs which are of a lower specification or are faulty/end of life. The specification of the PCs available is:
    • Dell Optiplex 7010 All-in-One PC
    • Core i3-3200 Processor
    • 4GB Memory
    • 250GB SSD drive
    • 22” Screen
  • The existing PC will be removed when the replacement is installed
  • These PCs are NOT available to staff for home use

We will also be adding a number of these PCs to our equipment loan stock so that when departments need extra equipment for temporary short term staff e.g Aber Forwards or for events they can borrow them from a central supply.
