How do I make a module available in Blackboard? (Staff)

By default all new modules added to Blackboard will be made available to students, but the status can be changed:

Make a module unavailable

To make a module unavailable to students:

  • Under the Control Panel, select Customisation and then Properties

  • Scroll down to Set Availability

  • Select No to make the module unavailable
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page, click Submit

Note:

  • When a module is unavailable only instructors, teaching assistants and course builders may access it. Graders may only access available courses.

  • If you have set a module to be unavailable, you must manually change it to make it available again.

Make a course available

To make a module available to students:

  • Under the Control Panel, select Customisation and Properties

  • Scroll down to Set Availability

  • Select Yes to make the course available
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page, click Submit

Set module duration dates

You can set course duration dates so that a module is only available for a set period of time.

If students report that they can see a module listed but are denied access to it, the course duration dates may have passed. To make a module available after the finish date has passed:

  • Under the Control Panel, select Customisation and Properties

  • Scroll down to  Set Course Duration

  • You may then either enter new dates, or change the duration to Continuous.
  • Press Submit and the module will be updated.
