Setting up your computer before you arrive so it connects automatically:

  • Visit the eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool website
  • Click the button Click here to download your eduroam installer
  • Use the search box at the bottom of the menu to search for Aberystwyth University and click on it
  • Click the blue eduroam button to download the installer
  • Run the file after it has downloaded and click Next
  • Click OK to the popup that appears
  • In the Username box, enter your full Aberystwyth University email address
  • Enter your password in the Password and Repeat password boxes then click Install
  • Click Finish
  • Your device will automatically connect to the network in your room when you plug in a network cable

Setting up your computer when you are already in your room:

On your computer:

  • Search for "settings" in the search bar at the bottom of your screen
  • Open the Settings app
  • In the window that opens, select Network & internet from the options on the left
  • Select Ethernet
  • Find the Physical address (MAC)
    • You might need to click the arrow icon on the right hand side to expand the menu and see all details
  • MAC addresses are always twelve characters long, and only contain numbers and certain letters (A, B, C, D, E, and F)
    • They may also be broken up by colons or hyphens for readability, e.g. 00:AA:35:DB:F0:1E

From another device:

  • Visit https://myaccount.aber.ac.uk/protected/stunet
  • Click the button Add a computer to the student network
  • Select the socket type that matches the socket in your room by using the pictures on the site
  • Enter your MAC address and finish the registration

Wait about 5 minutes then connect your computer to the network socket
