How do I insert a link into a web page in the CMS?

  • Click on the name of the section.
  • Click on the Content tab.
  • Find the appropriate piece of content where the link should be added.
  • Click on the name of the content to open it.
  • Type the text that is to be used as the link text. Note: Link text should be self-explanatory and the user should know where the link is taking them.
  • Internal Link – used for linking to other pages within the CMS
    • Select the text, click on the Insert/edit link button, and choose 'Insert section link' from the menu.

    • If the site structure is not already expanded, click on the + to the left of www.aber.ac.uk to expand this section, then click on the + to the left of Home to expand again.
    • Note: When choosing a section to link to in an internal link, be careful not to click on the name of the section while browsing through the site structure – only click on the + signs to expand sections and look inside them.
    • Pick a section of the website to link to and click on the section’s name to select it.
    • Your internal link has now been created.
  • External Link – used for linking to pages outside of the CMS or outside of the University
    • Select the text, click on the Insert/edit link button, and choose 'Link to external site' from the menu.

    • Type (or paste) the web address of a web page or web site that is not in the University’s CMS (e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/). You can also link to an email address by using 'mailto:' before the email address (e.g. mailto:sfs@aber.ac.uk). Click the Ok button to add the link.
    • Your external link has now been created.
  • Click the 'Save changes' button in the main content editor window to save your work.

Note: In order for the change to go live the content will need to be approved.
