How do I create an image menu in the CMS?
Before starting to add an image menu in the CMS, ensure that your images have been prepared for upload to the CMS. See Information Sheet 30.0 for further information on how to do this.
There are different types of image menus available:
- Small standard image menu
- Large standard image menu
- New style image menu (Can only be created by Moderators)
Upload your images into the CMS Media Library. Further information on how to do this is available in Information Sheet 7.0. Ensure that the images are of the correct width for the type of image menu that you wish to create:
- Small standard image menu – 120px wide
- Large standard image menu – 250px wide
- New style image menu – 336px wide and 388px high
Creating Small or Large Standard Image menus
Create a bullet point list of the text you wish to appear with your images.
Add the images to accompany each item to the left of the text.
Create a link for each item, adding a link to the image and link to the text separately. See Information Sheet 4.2 for further information on how to do this.
Click “ul” at the bottom of the editing box to highlight the whole list.
In the Format menu, choose Formats and then in the sub-menu that appears, choose Custom Formats and image-menu-small or image-menu-large, depending on your requirements.
Creating a New Style Image Menu
Open the section in the CMS where you want the image menu to appear.
Click on the Content tab. Click Add content and choose Display Image Menu.
Give the piece of content a name and click Save changes to save the content.
Return to the Site Structure and find the section where you want the image menu to appear. Click on the Actions button to the right of the section you have chosen, and the Actions menu will appear. Choose Create Section.
In the General Section Details page, type image-menu as the name of the section. It is important to use the correct wording, or the image menu will not work.
Un-tick the Show in navigation tick box so that this section will not show up in the left menu and click Save changes at the bottom of the screen.
When returned to the Site Structure, click on the plus sign to expand your section so you can see your new image-menu section.
Click on the image-menu section. Click on the Content tab, click Add content and choose the appropriate type of content for each item you want in your image menu: Image Menu Item (internal), Image Menu Item (external) or Image Menu + Text Item (internal).
In the respective template, give the item a name, upload the required image, type the text you wish to appear with the link, and add the section link or external link in the relevant boxes.
Click Save changes to finish.
