Improvements to security on AU staff computers

As part of an ongoing review of security on Aberystwyth University IT Systems, Information Services are changing the way user priviliges operate on AU owned computers.

To comply with our IT Regulations, meet the National Cyber Security Centre recommendations and to achieve the NCSC Cyber Essentials Certification we will:

  • limit the number and use of privileged (pc administrator) accounts on staff computers
  • ensure that administrator accounts are not used for day to day actvities e.g. web browsing/email

From 21 August 2017 standard user accounts will no longer have administrator priviliges on staff pcs.

Any adminitrator privileges that have been added to standard user accounts will be removed.

Members of staff who need administrator privileges ro install or access programs can apply for a seperate administrator account (How do I do that?)

All staff are reminded that in using the facilities offered by Information Services you are bound by our Regulations, Policies and Guidelines
