How do I complete the set up of my Aberystwyth University IT account?

  • To complete the setup of your Aberystwyth University IT account you will need to set up 2 step verification 
  • Login to https://outlook.aber.ac.uk from a PC/Laptop
  • You will be prompted to provide More Information
  • Click Next
  • You will be asked to download the Microsoft Authenticator app. You can find it by using the search box in the app store on your phone
  • After installing the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone, click Next
  • Click Next
  • This screen contains a code you will need to scan from your phone. Leave this screen open on your computer while you use your phone:
  • On your phone  - open the Microsoft Authenticator app
  • The app will automatically ask you to add an account the first time you open it. If it doesn't ask automatically, click the + symbol at the top-right of the app
  • Select Work or school account
  • If prompted, select Scan QR code
  • Give the app permission to access your camera if asked. The app only needs to use your camera once during setup
  • Point your phone camera at the code on your computer screen and it will scan automatically
  • Once your account has been added to the app, go back to your computer, click Next
  • You will be sent a test notification to your phone to confirm it is working.
  • On your phone  - enter the number that appears on your computer screen then click Yes when you receive the notification.
  • On your computer  - you will then be taken to a confirmation screen. Click Done to finish
  • The setup is now completed and you will need to verify any requests to login to your account from off-campus using the app on your mobile phone.
