Can I remote desktop from my Mac to my work computer?
You can use the Windows remote desktop facility to connect to your office computer from another computer, as long as both are connected to the University network either on campus or from home using VPN
Before you leave campus:
- Set up VPN on your device so that you can connect to the University network while you are off-campus: https://faqs.aber.ac.uk/index.php?id=2764
- Enable remote desktop on your office computer from the software centre by clicking install
- Once installed, restart your PC
- If you receive a message that it isn't available, click the Installation Status tab on the left, select Enable Remote Desktop and then click Uninstall. You can then try installing it using the step above again
- Find your computer's device name by copying the Device Name from the About Settings by clicking this link
- our device name should be WS followed by four numbers e.g. WS1234
- Your computers address is your WS number, followed by ".aber.ac.uk"
- Do not turn off your computer. It will need to be turned on and connected to the network for remote desktop to work
- Check your computer's address appears under your list of devices by logging in to https://myaccount.aber.ac.uk/protected/paws/
- If your devices doesn't appear on this page, contact Information Services and provide your computer's address
When you are off campus:
- Make sure that you have the VPN set up first, you will need to connected to the VPN to use remote desktop.
- Open Global Protect and connect to the VPN.
- Log in to https://myaccount.aber.ac.uk/protected/paws/
- Click the Wake button next to your computer. Your computer will have gone to sleep while it was unattended
- Install Microsoft Remote Desktop from the App Store on your Mac.
- Open Microsoft Remote Desktop, click Add PC
- Enter Your PC's full name and click Add.
- Your PC will now be available to remotely connect to
- In Microsoft Remtoe Desktop, double click your PC to initiate a connection
- When prompted for a username, enter pau\username, and your Aberystwyth University account password.
