How do I request a second chapter to be digitised under the licence extension by the CLA? (until 31 July 2021)

The Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) have temporarily amended the terms of its Higher Education Licence in relation to printed books published by participating publishers. We will be able to make an increased amount of digitised content from printed books giving students greater access to online learning resources until 31 July 2021.

The main change is:

  • The extent limit for scanning from print books is increased to 20% or two chapters, whichever is the greater, compared to the usual 10% or 1 chapter.

Please note the following:

  • The extended permission is temporary, and will terminate on 31 July 2021, after which the licence will revert to the standard extent limit of 10% or one chapter
  • All extracts uploaded (i.e. the second chapter) under this special provision will be removed by 31 July 2021.

Please note: if you wish to make use of the 20% extension, chapters must be entered seperately in your Aspire list.

Requesting the first chapter to be digitised:

  • Enter the resource on the Aspire reading list as Chapter (How do I do that?
  • Click on ⋮ button next to the resource you would like digitised.
  • Select Request digitisation

  • Complete all essential fields marked with *

  • Click Next once all fields are complete
  • Enter Course Name and Course Code if not auto-filled
  • Next
  • Check your e-mail address is correct, then click Next
  • Click Close on the final page
  • Your request will now be submitted to the library for processing

Requesting the second chapter:

  • Enter the resource on the Aspire reading list as Chapter as usual
  • Click on ⋮ button next to the resource you would like digitised.
  • Select Request digitisation
  • In the Chapter or section name option, type SECOND EXTRACT and the chapter number and title

  

  • Continue to process and submit the form as above.
