What are the deadlines for arranging library stock purchase and digitisation for taught modules?
Reading lists in Aspire can be updated throughout the year, however all lists must be revised and published by the following deadlines for the new academic year:
- Semester 1 modules - 31st July
- Modules taught over both semesters - 31st July
- Semester 2 modules - 30th November
Distance learner modules
- 30th June
This allows Library staff sufficient time to purchase or digitise resources for the start of each semester. These are some of the situations that arise where more time is needed to resource a reading list
- An item requested for digitisation is out on loan and cannot otherwise be easily sourced
- An item requested for digitisation is not copyright-cleared
- Institutional ebook licenses are frequently not available for the titles requested
- Some physical resources are only available direct from publishers overseas and take time to arrive
- Many ebooks requested are so expensive and sold under such restrictive licenses that they cannot be routinely purchased
- Sometimes the Library has to engage with an etextbook company to lease access to an ebook for students on a single module for a year at a time
