Change to how devices that are not fully managed access AU resources via eduroam
As part of an ongoing review of security on Aberystwyth University (AU) IT Systems, a change is being made to the way staff devices that are NOT centrally managed, access AU resources and services from the wireless network eduroam.
To improve network security and to comply with our Bring your own Device policy any staff device that is NOT centrally managed will need to connect to the GlobalProtect VPN service or use an Android work profile for access to AU resources and services, even when connected to eduroam on campus.
Access to non-AU resources, for example, personal email, Facebook, wifi calling will remain unchanged.
Access to resources and services from staff devices using the wired network will remain unchanged.
What you will need to do to use AU resources and services from an unmanaged device:
- If you are using an Android device, set up a work profile. You can start using this now without waiting for the date below.
Please note that not all services are available through the work profile so for some you may still need VPN - If you are using a Windows, iOS or Linux device you will need to use Global Protect VPN. You will not need, or be able, to connect to the VPN on eduroam from these devices until after the date below.
