I have received an 'Unusual Activity Alert' for my Aber email account, what does this mean?

Unusual Activity Alerts have been introduced on Aberystwyth University IT accounts to notify users if an account has been logged in to from a location (country) or network not usually used.

Quickly detecting and preventing fraudulent logins is an important factor in securing our systems and services.

When a login from an unusual location or network is detected, an alert is sent to the account holder's home email address directing them to a webpage with details of the login and asking for confirmation:

  • that this was the account holder (This was me)
  • notifying that it wasn't (This wasn't me)

Choosing This wasn't me will send an alert to Information Services who will investigate.

If you are concerned that someone has fraudulently accessed your account you should change your password immediately and inform Information Services.

It is important that you keep the home email address you have recorded with Aberystwyth University up to date to receive these alerts.
